About Us

Wave Pool is an arts nonprofit in Camp Washington, Cincinnati. We support artists who apply their creativity outside the art world to improve the lives of communities. We employ artists, support their professional development, incubate new artist-led initiatives,  provide facilities and funding, and connect artists with the neighborhoods and organizations. Our building, a former firehouse, holds a gallery, a woodshop, a ceramics studio, guest artist apartment, and a flexible workshop space.

History

Artists Cal and Skip Cullen founded Wave Pool in 2015. Over its first decade the organization produced work that extended beyond the arts into community development, education, food systems, and public health. The Welcome Project supported Cincinnati's refugee and immigrant communities through art and food. Welcome Kitchen delivered 14,000 pounds of food to over 700 families during the pandemic. Welcome Editions paired nationally recognized artists with refugee artisans. During this period Camp Washington changed from a post-industrial neighborhood into a creative district with hundreds of artist studios.
Today Wave Pool invests in artists who build initiatives of their own. The Incubator supports artists launching new organizations and cross-sector projects. MATCH employs artists and places them in Cincinnati nonprofits for three years. Driving Lessons provides professional development in fundraising, business management, and strategic planning. Fiscal sponsorship gives artist-led projects a nonprofit structure to receive grants and manage funds. Fabrication residency supports artists producing a body of work for exhibitions and commissions.
